Scope and Contents

This collection contains material pertaining to the city and county of Riverside, California and its founding and development in the late 19th and early 20th century. The collection focuses on local history, as well as the unique historic residential homes, buildings, and landscapes created in the city of Riverside and surrounding areas in the early days of development. These include military bases, the citrus industry, housing developments, universities, and museums. There is information on local efforts to preserve the city and county of Riverside’s history, primarily in terms of the unique residential homes, historic adobe buildings and outposts, and other notable architectural buildings and neighborhoods. Information regarding members of the Klotz and Hamilton families is also included.
